Chandigarh: Punjab BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha vice-president Paramjit Singh Kainth on Thursday termed the alleged use of police personnel for a “pre-wedding shoot” by an AAP leader in Punjab as “a direct assault on democratic norms.“Kainth said, “If the state police machinery is deployed to enhance the personal image of an individual associated with the ruling party, it represents not merely an abuse of authority but a blatant example of institutional politicisation.”

He questioned, “Whether the Punjab Police is meant to uphold law and order or to serve partisan publicity interests.” He added, “The police department is not a private instrument of any political party but a constitutional institution established to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. If, under the leadership of chief minister Bhagwant Mann, the police is reduced to a political tool, it signals a dangerous erosion of administrative neutrality in Punjab.“He demanded an immediate and impartial inquiry into the matter and called for strict legal action against any officers or political individuals found responsible.Kainth added, “Punjab is already confronting serious security challenges. The expanding drug network and persistent threats in border areas remain matters of concern. In this context, the killing of two police personnel near the international border in Gurdaspur district further intensified the gravity of the situation. Diverting police attention towards personal publicity activities at such a sensitive time is indefensible.“Ends MSID:: 128814903 413 |
