According to a statement issued by the EOW Kashmir, the chargesheets were filed before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Srinagar, against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Kalaroos Lishtiyal in Kupwara district.
The first chargesheet relates to FIR No. 13/2026, registered under Sections 318(4), 336(3), 340(2) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, the EOW alleged that Mir cheated a job aspirant of Rs 2.10 lakh after promising to arrange employment. The accused allegedly supported the claim by producing a fake and forged appointment order purportedly issued by the Airport Authority of India.
The second case pertains to FIR No. 10/2025, registered under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
As per the investigation, the accused allegedly impersonated himself as a Duty Officer attached to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and used the purported position to offer government jobs and land allotments at SDA Colony, Bemina.
The EOW alleged that Mir collected approximately Rs 60 lakh from individuals on the promise of providing government employment and land. He allegedly issued fake appointment orders and land-allotment letters to those who paid money.
The Crime Branch said the two chargesheets have now been presented before the court for judicial determination.
The EOW further stated that Abdul Majeed Mir is allegedly involved in 15 separate criminal cases registered across the Kashmir Valley, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations against him.
The Economic Offences Wing has also urged members of the public to exercise caution while dealing with individuals offering government jobs, official appointments or land allotments in exchange for money.
The agency advised anyone who has fallen victim to such economic fraud to report the matter to the SSP EOW Srinagar, Crime Branch J&K, or submit a complaint through the official email address [email protected].
