Patna: Health department secretary Kumar Ravi on Tuesday directed doctors at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) to ensure timely treatment and better patient care. He also asked doctors posted in emergency units to make at least two rounds daily to monitor patients’ conditions.During an on-site inspection and subsequent review meeting at the PMCH, Ravi directed all doctors to remain present at the hospital from 9am to 5pm in accordance with National Medical Commission (NMC) norms. He also asked the superintendent to immediately send requisitions for all vacant doctors’ posts to address the shortage of medical personnel.The directives came during a review of PMCH’s ongoing redevelopment project, which aims to equip the hospital with modern facilities. Ravi, along with special secretary Arvind Verma and BMSICL managing director Subrata Sen, inspected the buildings under construction, new OPD, registration counters and medicine distribution centres.Representatives of L&T and BMSICL briefed the officials on the progress of various components of the project. Ravi directed the agencies to complete the work within the stipulated time frame without compromising on quality and safety. He also called for 100% compliance with NMC guidelines.Verma, who is in charge of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, directed officials to ensure that maximum eligible patients benefit from it. He stressed that treatment under the scheme should not be disrupted, including in emergency cases.Officials were asked to improve coordination with Amrit Pharma to resolve medicine and essential-supply issues quickly. Skilled Ayushman Mitras will soon be deployed at the PMCH, while workshops will be organised to familiarise doctors and staff with the scheme’s procedures and technical aspects, said officials.
