Even if 1% remains unsurveyed, nearly 9,000 farmers will be excluded from relief and insurance schemes, said the DC

Mysuru: With drought looming, Mysuru deputy commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to ensure 100% coverage of the monsoon crop survey scheduled from July 1. Chairing the district-level crop survey implementation committee meeting on Wednesday, Reddy said the survey of 9,96,708 plots across 1,301 villages must be completed before July 31.“Every year we achieve only 94% to 96% progress, and some pockets get left out. This time, if even 1% remains unsurveyed, nearly 9,000 farmers will be excluded from relief and insurance schemes,” the DC said.He stressed that in case of a drought declaration, compensation to farmers will be based on crop survey data, so not a single farmer should be left out. Reddy directed agriculture, horticulture and sericulture officers to identify inactive crop surveyors or those likely to drop out at the last-minute and arrange replacements immediately. Tahsildars have also been asked to monitor the work. The DC said 50,194 central FIDs are pending in the district. The FID is mandatory for disbursing PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi benefits. Of the 3,31,342 state FIDs, only a few plots per farmer are registered on the app. Officials were told to add all remaining plots on priority.Joint director of agriculture KH Ravi said awareness is being created to enrol more farmers under PM Fasal Bima Yojana given the drought forecast. “The deadline for insurance enrolment for some pulses is nearing. We are using auto announcements and pamphlets at the village level for wide publicity,” he said. “Under PM Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, subsidy is being given for drip and sprinkler irrigation units to general category and SC/ST beneficiaries through agriculture and horticulture departments. Farmers should utilise it,” Ravi added.
