Sambalpur: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday arrested Padmalochan Nayak, executive engineer of command area development authority (KADA) division for allegedly amassing assets that are 119% higher than his known income. He was produced in court.Preliminary assessment pegged the value of the assets at over Rs 4.35 crore. The arrest followed simultaneous raids at seven locations across Balasore, Malkangiri, Cuttack and Sambalpur.Addressing a press conference, SP (vigilance) Pradyumna Kumar Dwivedi said Nayak failed to satisfactorily explain sources of assets unearthed during the searches. Vigilance officials detected 18 plots in prime areas of Balasore, Jajpur and Cuttack, a three-storey house in Cuttack and two houses at his native place. They also seized three cars, two JCB machines, a tanker, a tractor, a truck and a two-wheeler.Searches at his Cuttack residence led to the recovery of foreign currencies, including from US Nepal, Bahrain and Sri Lanka, along with his passport. Examination of his mobile phone reportedly indicated his involvement in gambling and betting activities in Sri Lanka.
