T’puram: In a significant relief to daily commuters, a portion of under-construction Enchakkal junction flyover was opened to traffic on Friday, allowing smoother movement for vehicles travelling from West Fort towards Vallakadavu. NHAI removed barricades along the stretch following mounting public demand and persistent traffic congestion in the area. The decision comes after months of hardship faced by motorists and locals due to restrictions and diversions necessitated by the ongoing flyover construction. Enchakkal flyover is designed to decongest one of city’s busiest traffic nodes that connects East Fort, Vallakadavu, Attakulangara and airport-bound routes. The Rs 47-crore project is expected to streamline vehicular movement towards Kovalam, Shanghumugham and Vizhinjam, significantly reducing travel time.Construction activities are currently being accelerated ahead of the monsoon, with priority given to finishing approach roads, drainage systems and lighting.
