Jamshedpur: In the wake of an elephant razing a house and attacking occupants in a neighbouring village the previous day, a resident of Tangar village under the Kumardungi police station limits in West Singhbhum shifted to a safer location on Friday night. Thieves decamped with items and cash, totalling Rs 50,000 from the empty house.The victim, Laxman Gope, said, “I, along with my family, shifted to our acquaintance’s house on Friday night in fear of elephants. When I returned home on Saturday morning, I found a wall broken and cash and other items missing.”

An elephant had attacked the house of Guru Prasad Nayak in our neighbouring Chokdi village. “The elephant not only broke a wall but stood near the door, preventing the occupants from escaping,” he said.In January, 20 people were trampled to death in West Singhbhum.
