COIMBATORE: A male elephant was found dead near a transformer close to the Thadagam reserve forest boundary in Coimbatore district on Tuesday afternoon.Acting on information, forest personnel rushed to a parcel of land owned by Arul Antony in the 24 Veerapandi village limits in Coimbatore North taluk and found the decomposed carcass of a tusker near a transformer.The spot where the animal was found is located about 50 metres outside the Thadagam reserve forest, falling under the Kanjipallam section of the Thadagam South beat within the Coimbatore forest range.Senior forest officials inspected the site, and an investigation was initiated to determine the exact cause of the jumbo’s death. A postmortem examination by wildlife veterinary officers will be conducted to confirm whether the animal died of natural causes or electrocution due to its proximity to the transformer.
