New Delhi: Electric two-wheelers have driven the initial uptake of Delhi’s EV Policy 2026, accounting for 1,648 of the 1,664 beneficiaries who have received purchase incentives. The policy, implemented from July 1, has received 5,678 applications across incentive categories, with Rs 4.8 crore — Rs 4.6 crore to electric two-wheeler buyers — released through direct benefit transfer till Sept 21, govt data shows.The scheme offers two-wheelers an incentive of Rs 10,000 per kWh (up to Rs 30,000) in the policy’s first year, Rs 6,600 per kWh (up to Rs 20,000) in the second year and Rs 3,300 per kWh (up to Rs 10,000) in the third year.At 5,621, two-wheelers have also generated the highest number of applications till Sept 21. In addition, 25 of these buyers have received Rs 2.5 lakh as incentives for scrapping, govt data states.Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026, rolled out by chief minister Rekha Gupta, has introduced a Rs 15,000-crore push to accelerate zero-emission transport and curb urban pollution in the city. She also launched Delhi EV Subsidy Portal on July 3, allowing buyers to claim financial incentives online.Govt has, however, received just 52 scrapping applications for e-4W cars and 79 applications for electric two-wheelers. Scrapping incentives worth Rs 16 lakh have been released to 16 beneficiaries against the purchase of new electric four-wheelers, while Rs 2.5 lakh has been paid to 25 electric two-wheeler owners.The policy also offers a Rs 1-lakh scrapping incentive for eligible BS-IV or older cars and Rs 10,000 for eligible BS-IV or older two-wheelers when buying a new electric vehicle.In all, 41 new EV buyers have received incentives for scrapping.A senior govt official said EV registrations in the electric goods vehicle segment had increased from 8% in the pre-policy months to almost 26% in Sept 2026. The change indicates a shift towards electric goods vehicles, he added. However, the number of policy-linked applications remains limited. Five applications have been received for N1 electric trucks of up to 3.5 tonnes and no subsidy has been disbursed so far.Officials said overall 4,014 applications were under scrutiny for verification and completion of the necessary processing. The substantial number of applications in the pipeline reflects people’s interest in the scheme, an official said.
