Mysuru: Even as close to 20% of voters in Mysuru are likely to be dropped from the draft electoral rolls as the voters were either absent, shifted, dead, duplicate or otherwise unavailable (ASDDO), another 5-10% too are likely to face scrutiny by the election commission because of discrepancies in their records.According to records prior to SIR commencement on June 30, Mysuru had 27.9 lakh voters from 2,915 polling stations across 11 assembly constituencies. During the process, the district administration found that about 5.6 lakh voters are likely to be dropped from the electoral roll as they have been categorised as ASDDO.Another 5-8% of total voters in every booth have been marked as having discrepancies, and they will be scrutinised after the announcement of the draft roll on Aug 24. This is likely to further reduce the total voter count in Mysuru if they fail to substantiate their identity by submitting the documents.With the SIR scheduled to conclude on Aug 17, the district administration is preparing for a major verification exercise that will involve record searches, issuance of notices and follow-up hearings for flagged electors.Officials said name mismatch is among the most common issues, particularly spelling differences between electoral roll and EPIC details of voters. Another major concern is the absence of ‘progeny’ or parentage-related records in several enumeration forms.In many cases, the BLOs collected forms from electors without complete progeny details, and those voters may now be required to establish their identity through alternate documents listed in the enumeration forms during the month-long enquiry period, failing which, they’re likely to be counted out from the electoral roll.DC Lakshmikanth Reddy said discrepancies will be handled in two categories. Minor errors, such as small spelling corrections and other clerical adjustments, will be addressed at the assistant electoral registration officer (AERO) level. For cases involving larger inconsistencies or doubts about identity, notices will be issued to the voters, asking them to appear and produce supporting proof.BLOs claim discrepancies are widespread across booths. One BLO estimated that around 50 to 100 voter entries in each booth show some form of mismatch in names and age. Each BLO typically handles an average of 1,150 to 1,350 voters. There are 2,915 booths in Mysuru, with Mysuru district having an estimated 28 lakh voters.Officers indicated that even a small percentage of mismatch could translate into a significant number of cases requiring verification and disposal.
