Ludhiana: An elderly woman was allegedly robbed of her purse by two motorcycle-borne snatchers, including a woman, while returning from a market in Samrala after purchasing gifts for her daughter. The incident, which occurred Sunday evening, was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area.The victim, Harjit Kaur, had come to visit her daughter in Samrala and was carrying sandhara (traditional gifts). Despite her daughter’s advice not to venture out, she decided to visit the market to buy bangles, biscuits and other items.Harjit Kaur said she was walking near the old vegetable market around 5.30 pm when a motorcycle carrying a man and a woman approached her. The duo allegedly snatched her purse and shopping bag before speeding away towards Khanna Road.The victim said she raised an alarm and attempted to chase the accused. Local residents also pursued the duo on motorcycles, but the snatchers managed to escape.Harjit Kaur said her purse contained around Rs 7,000, her Aadhaar and PAN cards, ATM card, bank passbook, salary slip and other important documents. The accused reportedly discarded the shopping bag containing biscuits a short distance away but fled with the purse.A relative of the victim, Inder Mohan, said CCTV footage from nearby cameras was being examined and the suspects were clearly visible in the recordings. A complaint has been lodged with the police seeking the identification and arrest of the accused.Police said they have received the complaint and are scanning CCTV footage from the area to trace the snatchers.
