Mohali: A 75-year-old retired superintendent of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) was killed and his wife critically injured after their motorcycle reportedly skidded on a rain-soaked stretch of road. As they fell, they were run over by a truck near Jujhar Nagar on Monday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Daulat Ram Saini. His wife, Krishna Devi, sustained grievous injuries and was referred to PGI. Police said the victims were on their way home from Sector 39 (West), Chandigarh and were just a few minutes away from home.Preliminary investigations indicate that the motorcycle skidded following the victim’s attempt to overtake a truck. Passersby rushed to the spot, informed the police and ambulance services, and shifted both victims to the Phase-6 Civil Hospital. Doctors declared Daulat Ram brought dead, while Krishna Devi was administered first aid before being referred to PGI.
