Kanpur: An elderly man died after he was allegedly beaten with sticks in the Ninaya village market under the Gajner police station area in Kanpur Dehat when he objected to being abused. Police registered a case against three named and two unidentified accused and launched a search.The incident, which took place on Tuesday, came to light when the injured man died on Wednesday. Chandrapal (75), a resident of Shahjahanpur Ninaya, went to the village market in Mangalpur at 6 pm on Tuesday, when a dispute broke out with some people from a group over abuse. His wife, Ramjanki, said that the village people assaulted and injured him.He was taken to the Community Health Centre, Gajner, in critical condition. Dr Siddh Gopal Sharma, on duty at the CHC, treated him. Describing the injuries as minor, he was sent home.However, on Wednesday around 2:30 pm, his condition deteriorated and he died. In the written complaint given to police, the deceased’s son alleged that Santosh, Kallu, Vijay and two other people from the village brutally beat his father, Chandrapal, with sticks, iron rods, kicks and punches in the market, which led to his death. SHO Surya Pratap Singh said that a case was registered under sections of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and assaultand a search for the accused was under way. tnn
