Chennai: An elderly couple were drugged and robbed of gold jewellery weighing 51 sovereigns at their home in Kolapakkam near Kilambakkam. Police suspect the role of their live-in domestic worker from Nepal, who was hired a week ago.According to the complaint, the worker served milk to Rajendran, 61, and his wife Usha Rani, 57, before they went to bed on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, they found that gold jewellery worn by Usha was missing. Also, the worker had absconded and house was locked from outside.Police broke open the lock and their preliminary investigation suggested the worker might have mixed a sedative in the milk.A case has been registered, and efforts are under way to trace the suspect. Police, however, noted certain suspicious aspects — Usha Rani is said to have worn 51 sovereigns of gold jewellery while asleep. Moreover, no valuables belonging to Rajendran were reported missing.
