Ahmedabad: Eight shops and commercial units were demolished in Maktampura to widen a road on Wednesday.The estate department of South West Zone of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation carried out the demolition. “The National Highways Authority of India (NHA) is currently constructing an elevated corridor on the Vishala-Sarkhej national highway in Maktampura ward. As part of this project, a notice was issued to Juhapura Bhajiya House and other buildings located at Juhapura Crossroads to voluntarily remove encroachments and hand over possession of the portion intruding on the 7.5-m road widening line. However, they did not carry out the demolition voluntarily.“Consequently, on Wednesday, during the road-clearing operation, commercial structures of a total of eight units spanning from the ground floor to the second floor — covering an area of 3,874 square feet — were demolished.”
