Pune: The Parvati police on Tuesday registered a cheating case against two men on the charge of duping at least eight people of Rs 24 lakh on the promise of securing them jobs in different state govt departments.A 45-year-old woman from Laxminagar in Parvati lodged the police complaint.An officer said the complainant came into contact with one of the accused in 2020. He claimed to be a state revenue department officer and to have contacts in Mantralaya. He also claimed he could help needy candidates secure jobs in different state govt departments.“He assured the complainant that he could get her a job in the revenue department and asked her to pay Rs 5 lakh,” the officer said.The accused also assured jobs to the complainant’s acquaintances. The accused and his accomplice collected Rs 24 lakh from the complainant and others between 2024 and 2026 on the pretext of arranging medical clearances and joining letters.“They gave joining letters to the complainant and others, but the letters turned out to be fake,” he said.The officer said when the complainant and others did not get their money back despite repeated follow-ups, they approached the police and lodged a complaint.“Our investigation is on,” the officer said.
