Srinagar, Aug 26: Muslims across Jammu and Kashmir celebrated Eid-e-Milad-Un-Nabi (SAW) with religious zeal and fervour, as people thronged shrines and mosques across the Union Territory to participate in special prayers.The day, observed on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal in the Islamic calendar, is celebrated with great enthusiasm worldwide, On this occasion, the largest congregation was witnessed at the Dargah Hazratbal shrine, where thousands of devotees from different parts of the Valley converged to offer prayers and seek forgiveness.
The devotees—including men, women, children, and the elderly—who thronged the Hazratbal Shrine had a glimpse of the holy relic after every prayer on Wednesday. Among the prominent devotees at Hazratbal were Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his father, Dr Farooq Abdullah.Emotional scenes were witnessed after every prayer when the holy relic was displayed at the shrine, with devotees raising their hands amid tearful eyes, seeking the mercy of the Almighty and praying for well-being.
On special occasions, the holy relic is displayed five times a day after every prayer.Notably, special night-long prayers were also held at the shrine, in which thousands of people from across the Valley participated and offered special prayers. The devotees recited Naat, Manqabat, and Qur’anic verses throughout the night and sought forgiveness.Besides Hazratbal, mosques and shrines across the Valley also saw large gatherings of worshippers in Central, North, and South Kashmir areas.
Religious scholars delivered sermons about the life and teachings of Prophet Mohammad (SAW), urging people to follow the righteous path of kindness and humility.Meanwhile, special arrangements were made by the administration and the Waqf Board at the shrines across the Union Territory, while elaborate traffic arrangements were made for the devotees.Notably, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq,
the Council of Ministers, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone V. K. Birdi, and others extended greetings to the people on the occasion and prayed for the peace and well-being of Jammu and Kashmir.
