Mangaluru: Governor of Andhra Pradesh and former Supreme Court judge S Abdul Nazeer Saturday said education is meant to train the mind and not merely stuff the brain with information, stressing that literacy is only one component of true education.He was speaking at the inauguration of the 3rd All India Moot Court Competition at Sujnana Deepika Auditorium of Vivekananda Law College in Puttur.Justice Nazeer said judicial education in India has evolved from an informal, apprentice-based system into a structured and institutionalised framework to keep pace with advancements in law, technology and societal change. He noted that the present system emphasises continuous learning to enhance the quality of justice delivery and improve court management.He said the concept of dharma during the Vedic era formed the basis of legal education in the country.Chief guest Justice N Kotiswar Singh said that moot court competitions help students develop analytical skills and the ability to logically counter opponents’ arguments.“If you lose an argument in a moot court, there is no loss. But if you lose in a real court, you may lose hundreds of clients,” he said, adding that the world views India as an emerging global power and that young lawyers will play a crucial role in carrying forward that legacy.
