CHANDIGARH: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s relative Amardeep Singh Grewal in the alleged Rs 5 crore bribe demand linked to Mann’s wife Gurpreet Kaur Mann.Sources in the ED said Grewal was asked to appear before the ED at its Delhi Headquarters Investigation Unit on October 7 (Wednesday). Sources said Grewal sought “adjournment” and has been summoned to appear before the ED on October 9.Grewal, according to the ED, is a prominent Punjabi film personality with M/s East Sunshine Production Pvt Limited. He has been associated with various Punjabi films, including Maujan hi Maujan (2023) and Snowman (2022) having overseas production/release linkages, as per the ED.Grewal’s name figured in the controversy surrounding allegations of political influence and an alleged Rs 5 crore demand for getting an FIR cancelled in an Amritsar rape case.A petition in the Punjab and Haryana high court described him as a relative of CM Mann’s wife. It was alleged that Grewal demanded the alleged graft money to settle the case, citing his proximity to CM’s wife.The allegations subsequently triggered wider controversy after retired judge Justice Ranjit Singh referred to the alleged Rs 5-crore demand, following which the NHRC directed the Punjab chief secretary and DGP to inquire into the matter.Gurpreet Kaur has denied the graft allegations, calling these as baseless, fabricated and politically motivated.”On September 26, a Chandigarh district court lifted an interim restraint on Justice Singh from publishing or sharing material concerning the alleged Rs 5-crore demand, after examining the context of his remarks and the relevant high court proceedings.
