Out of nearly 60.6 lakh names were under adjudication, out of which 32 lakhs have already been disposed of, sources informed. Among these, about 40 percent names have been deleted, according to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
Meanwhile, the procedure for filing appeals before the Appellate Tribunal has not yet been formed.The Election Commission is currently developing software, subject to the permission of the High Court. The process is not being conducted under the Representation of the People Act; rather, it is proceeding under Article 142 of the Constitution, as a result of which the Commission holds no authority in this matter, an EC top official said.
Applications may be submitted through both online and offline modes. An inspection will be conducted at the Judicial Academy for the purpose of establishing the Tribunal.
Representatives from the Calcutta High Court and the Election Commission will conduct a joint inspection tomorrow, following which they will announce their decision, EC said.
