Madhubani: In a boost to Mithila’s famed art tradition, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked the Madhubani Chitrakala Sansthan to supply 50 Madhubani paintings for official purposes. In a letter issued by its protocol officer, the Commission sought paintings showcasing the traditional art, culture and heritage of Madhubani. It also directed that preference be given to local artists and craftsmen engaged in preserving and promoting the art form. Each painting will be accompanied by a brief description in English explaining its theme and artistic features, and will be supplied along with the prescribed invoice. The move is expected to provide national exposure to local artists and further strengthen the identity of Madhubani painting.“The EC’s decision to use traditional Madhubani paintings for official purposes is a mark of respect for Mithila’s artistic legacy and will help secure wider recognition for local artists,” said Narendra Narain Singh Nirala, retired HoD of History at R K College.
