Dimapur: Election Commission of India secretary Binod Kumar on Friday held review meetings on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Dimapur and Chumoukedima districts, asking officials to step up efforts to improve mapping coverage and ensure that electoral-roll data was updated accurately.Kumar asked BLOs to conduct thorough verification and mapping at the grassroots level and coordinate closely with the electoral officials concerned.He also stressed the need to complete the mapping exercise on time and for greater coordination among district election officers (DEOs), electoral registration officers (EROs), assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) and BLOs to make the required progress.At a meeting in the Dimapur deputy commissioner’s conference hall, Dimapur DC and district election officer Tinojongshi Chang gave a presentation on the current status and progress of the SIR exercise in the district.After the review meeting, Kumar visited two polling stations under the 3-Dimapur-III Assembly constituency to assess the progress of the SIR exercise and its implementation at the field level.In Chumoukedima, the ECI official urged officials to adhere to the prescribed timeline and complete all SIR-related activities on schedule. He also called for solutions to the challenges faced by BLOs and stressed the importance of ensuring that awareness and information reached citizens across the district.Appreciating the work carried out by the BLOs, Kumar urged them to update their findings in the application within the stipulated time.He also asked them to discharge their duties diligently and ensure that all eligible voters were included in the electoral roll while maintaining its integrity.Kumar said the SIR exercise would have a generational impact and urged all concerned to intensify their efforts, regularly review the situation and take timely steps to resolve emerging issues and challenges.Chumoukedima DC and district election officer Polan John gave a detailed presentation on the district profile, covering the total number of electors, polling stations, rationalisation of polling stations and training and awareness programmes related to the SIR.
