Chief electoral commissioner, ECI, Anbu Kumar

BENGALURU: Chief electoral commissioner, ECI, Anbu Kumar warned district election officer, Bengaluru and chief commissioner, GBA, among other districts’ officials, against lapses in distribution of enumeration forms for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program in the state.SIR in Karnataka began on June 30 with visits to VIP houses: govt officials, judges, elected representatives, and picked up over the next two days with 20% distribution of enumeration forms totalling 1.12 crore.A total of 59,050 booth level officers are covering 5.5 crore houses in the state through the door to door enumeration, a process that concludes July 29.Following a complaint on Thursday, the CEO said, “Some complaints have been received alleging that that BLOs are not visiting the houses and distributing the forms from the offices.”“In view of the above complaints, you are hereby instructed to issue necessary directions to all the BLOs to visit house-to-house for distribution of enumeration forms as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India and strictly adhere to the directions and guidelines of ECI regarding all aspects of Special Intensive Revision.”Further, he asked for voter facilitation centres to be popularised: voters who find it difficult to fill the enumeration forms have the option of visiting the Voter Facilitation Centers for necessary assistance. This comes a day after union minister HD Kumaraswamy accused the DK Shivakumar led Congress Govt of creating documents for bogus voters, derailing the SIR process, and distributing enumeration forms in community halls instead of the houses of voters. He shared a video of a community hall, where voters were filled in and enumeration forms given. However TOI checked with CEO if it was a facilitation centre, but no response was received.
