Ahmedabad: For the past decade, AMC has been planning to develop the section between Saptarishi Ghat and Atal Ghat on the eastern bank of Sabarmati river as a tourism circuit. In the standing committee meeting to be held on Thursday, a tourism-boosting proposal worth Rs 14 crore will be submitted.The proposal envisages the construction of new temples, restoration of temples, and development of a temple plaza stretching from Saptarishi Ghat to Atal Ghat on Sabarmati river.In 2004, AMC established Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (SRFDCL) and launched the Sabarmati Riverfront Project.In Phase-1, an 11km stretch of Sabarmati Riverfront was developed and inaugurated in 2011. During the riverfront project period, civic officials discussed the development of religious sites along the banks of Sabarmati river.It was at this stage that AMC proposed developing temples along the riverbank into a tourism circuit.However, the project could not be executed. Now, finally, AMC has planned to make the temple circuit a reality. The project is likely to be awarded to a company through a single tender.
