Shillong: East Khasi Hills health authorities issued a monsoon advisory urging residents to guard against seasonal diseases.The advisory, issued by the district medical & health officer, flagged mosquito-borne diseases, scrub typhus, water- and food-borne illnesses and mushroom poisoning. Residents were asked to prevent water stagnation, use mosquito nets and repellents, wear full-sleeved clothing, avoid dirty or floodwater, maintain hygiene, store and reheat cooked food properly, avoid stale food and not consume wild mushrooms.It also warned against contaminating drinking water sources. Schools, offices and institutions were told to clear stagnant water, maintain sanitation and report unusual fever or diarrhoea clusters immediately.
