On June 19, an earth mover allegedly ran over the worker while he was asleep in the afternoon. He died on the spot.

Pune: A case has been registered against four people, including an earth mover operator, after a worker (23) was crushed to death under the machine and the accused allegedly dumped the body on the Wagholi-Rahu Road to make it look like a hit-and-run accident.The incident took place on June 19. It came to light after a labour contractor alerted the victim’s brother, who approached the Yavat police and lodged a complaint.The deceased was identified as Ramu Pasi (23) of Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh.An officer from the Yavat police station said Pasi worked at a jaggery-making unit in Daund taluka. On June 19, an earth mover allegedly ran over him while he was asleep in the afternoon. The worker died on the spot.“Instead of reporting the accident to the police, the accused placed the body in a car and dumped it on the Wagholi-Rahu Road. They wanted it to look like a hit-and-run case,” the officer said.He further said the four accused also threatened the labour contractor ,who had hired Pasi, and warned him to keep quiet about the incident. “However, the contractor contacted Pasi’s brother in UP and informed that he was missing.”The officer said that after Pasi’s brother reached Daund, the contractor narrated the entire incident to him. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the four accused under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. “Our investigation is on,” the officer added.
