Kanpur Students of Maa Kasturba Girls Inter college took seven pledges to save earth at a special event held on World Earth Day on Wednesday.Attending the event as chief guest, DM Jitendra Pratap Singh inaugurated a leaf compost bin, planted a neem sapling, and lauded the initiative to install 10 artificial nests within the school premises for sparrow conservation. He said that initiatives like preparing natural compost from dry leaves were extremely beneficial for environmental conservation. Such efforts serve to nurture the Earth without causing any harm.He said that artificial nests were proving effective in saving sparrows and other birds. The promotion of greenery was equally essential, as animals, birds, insects, and other living beings possess an equal right to this earth. He added that the experiments conducted at this school, along with its greenery, serve as an inspiration for other schools as well.Under the ‘Sweet Sparrow, Come Back Home’ campaign, 10 artificial nests were installed free of cost within the school premises for the conservation of sparrows. Campaign’s founder Gaurav Vajpayee said that to save the Earth, every individual must—within their own capacity—consider how to help nature, animals, birds, trees, plants, and small creatures.During the programme, the children were also administered seven pledges for the conservation of the Earth.School principal Dr Kamini Awasthi said such efforts towards environmental conservation would continue in the school in the future.
