NEW DELHI: Two people were killed after an e-rickshaw battery explosion triggered a fire in a four-storey residential building in west Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar early Monday.The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call about a godown fire at 4.42am from Masjid Gurudwara Road, Raghubir Nagar. Three fire tenders and a water bowser were rushed to the spot.According to senior fire officials, the fire broke out on the first floor of the building, which comprises a ground floor and four upper floors. Preliminary inquiry suggested that the blaze was caused by the explosion of an e-rickshaw battery, which set domestic articles on fire.Two persons sustained severe burn injuries and were taken to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital by locals before the arrival of fire officials. Doctors at the hospital declared both brought dead.The deceased were identified as Sufaid (17) and Mohammad Samid (38).Fire officials said the blaze was brought under control, and a “stop” message was issued at 5.25am. The exact cause of the battery explosion is being investigated. Further details are awaited.
