New Delhi: A portion of the ceiling of a porta classroom at Dyal Singh College collapsed on Wednesday.Videos of the incident surfaced online showing a large section of the false ceiling hanging precariously from the roof, with debris scattered across the floor of what appeared to be an empty classroom. Benches and desks could be seen beneath the damaged portion.

According to a statement issued by ABVP, no students were present inside the classroom at the time of the collapse, averting a major mishap.Following the incident, students staged a protest on campus, raising concerns over safety and infrastructure.ABVP members, along with Delhi University Students’ Union president Aryan Mann, visited the college and submitted a memorandum to the administration. The student body said that all porta classrooms were subsequently inspected and vacated.In its statement, ABVP said it has demanded that the classrooms be repaired and made structurally safe within 10 days. The college administration has assured that restoration work will be undertaken in accordance with safety standards and that regular classes will resume once repairs are completed, it added.College principal Vinod Kumar Paliwal told TOI, “No student or staff member was injured in the incident. We will conduct an inspection and remove any structures that are found to be in an unsafe condition.”
