Shillong Lajong FC scored five goals past a hapless Mumbay FC defence.

Shillong Lajong FC rode on Everbrightson Sana’s brace to record a comprehensive 5-0 win over Mumbay FC in a Group ‘E’ match of the Durand Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Saturday and stay in the hunt for a quarterfinal berth.

Abhay Gurung, Tremiki Lamurong, and Figo Syndai scored a goal apiece to complete the tally to take Lajong to the top of the group with six points from two matches.

Lajong pressed constantly until it struck twice in the additional time of the first half. Gurung capitalised on a rebound to find the breakthrough. Lamurong doubled the lead sooner than later.

After resumption, Sana scored off a Lamurong pass and pounced on another opportunity to complete his brace.

Substitute Syndai headed home Lajong’s fifth.

In Guwahati, Alaaeddine Ajaraie scored a goal apiece early in either half to star in North East United FC’s 4-1 win over Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC. The host took the top spot in Group ‘F’ with six points.

The results: At Shillong: Group E: Shillong Lajong 5 (Abhay Gurung 45+1, Tremiki Lamurong 45+3, Everbrighton Sana 52, 64, Figo Syndai 88) bt Mumbay FC 0.

At Guwahati: Group F: North East United FC 4 (Alaaeddine Ajaraie 6-p, 48, Macarton Nickson 83, Ethyan Gonzalez 90+6) bt Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC 1 (Junior Onguene 27).
