Dumka: Two men have been arrested for attempting to murder a man using an illegal weapon in Hiranpur police station limits of Pakur district on May 19, the police said on Thursday.In a statement, Pakur SP Anudeep Singh said Kapildev Mandal had accused Sandeep Mandal, a resident of Gopalpur village, of attempting to shoot him with an intention to kill after abuse and assault. Kapildev had a narrow escape after the bullet got jammed inside Sandeep’s gun and did not fire. The murder attempt was born out of an enmity, police sources said.A case was registered on May 20 against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act based on the written complaint. A team, led by Pakur sud-divisional police officer, arrested Sandeep on Wednesday.During interrogation, Sandeep revealed to the police that the country-made gun, used in the murder attempt, was with Darshan Mandal, also a resident of Gopalpur village. Darshan was arrested on Wednesday, and the gun was recovered from him.Police said Darshan has several criminal cases registered against him. A separate case has been lodged against him under relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.“During the operation, police seized a silver-coloured country-made pistol with a magazine and one live round,” read the statement.
