Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced a new agreement to reduce daily transport costs for select residents, introducing 50 per cent discounts on taxi fares alongside exemptions from public parking fees. The initiative, revealed in early April 2026, rolled out in coordination with Dubai’s social development authorities as part of ongoing efforts to enhance mobility access and reduce financial strain on vulnerable groups. Officials said the move reflects the emirate’s long-term commitment to building an inclusive and accessible transport system.

Who gets a 50% taxi fare discount in Dubai?

According to the RTA, the 50 per cent taxi fare reduction primarily targets People of Determination, a category officially recognised across the UAE for individuals with disabilities.Authorities clarified that eligible residents must hold valid identification such as the Sanad card, which enables them to access a range of government-supported benefits. The discounted fares apply to RTA taxis, including specially equipped vehicles designed to cater to mobility needs such as wheelchair access.Officials noted that the agreement ensures beneficiaries can travel more affordably for essential trips, including medical appointments, work commutes, and daily errands. The authority emphasised that improving “first and last-mile connectivity” for People of Determination remains a priority under Dubai’s transport strategy.

Parking fee exemptions

As part of the same agreement, Dubai has expanded parking fee exemptions for eligible residents across designated paid parking zones.RTA officials confirmed that the exemptions apply to registered beneficiaries under approved social welfare categories. While People of Determination remain the primary focus, certain senior citizens and qualifying residents enrolled in social support programmes may also benefit, subject to approval and documentation. The authority added that these exemptions are intended to ease recurring costs for residents who rely on private vehicles, particularly in areas where paid parking is widely enforced.

UAE’s inclusive transport system

In its statement, the RTA said the initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader vision of creating a “barrier-free city” and improving quality of life through accessible infrastructure and services.Officials highlighted that Dubai has consistently expanded concessions in recent years, including discounted public transport fares and dedicated mobility services. The latest agreement builds on those efforts by integrating financial relief with practical accessibility measures. The announcement comes as Dubai continues to enhance its transport ecosystem, with authorities stressing that inclusive mobility is not just a service upgrade but a key part of the emirate’s urban development goals.
