Gurgaon: A 19-year-old Delhi University (DU) student was allegedly raped by a 29-year-old man in a flat in Sector 33, where she had gone to attend a birthday party on Saturday. Police arrested the accused from the city on Sunday, soon after a case was lodged. The survivor, originally from West Bengal, did not know the accused before the incident, and they met at the party. The accused was identified as Divyam, a resident of Delhi’s Rohini, who works with a security company.According to police and sources, Divyam arrived late for the party as he was invited by his cousin who was among those attending it. He met the survivor there, and they began to drink together.“The accused got heavily drunk and started misbehaving with the woman. Later, the accused took her to an isolated part of the flat and raped her. The woman also confronted the accused for taking advantage of her inebriated condition,” an investigator said.The survivor initially confided in her friend who hosted the party, following which arguments broke out between the attendees.The accused and his cousin soon left the party. She eventually lodged a complaint with police on Sunday morning, following which police registered a case under Section 64(1) (rape) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sadar police station.“After being informed by the survivor, we immediately traced the accused and arrested him. He was produced before the court, following which he was sent to judicial custody. The woman underwent counselling sessions,” a police officer said.Police also got the survivor’s statement recorded before a judicial magistrate after getting her medical examination conducted. Investigators visited the flat where the incident took place and interrogated those who attended the party as well.
