New Delhi: A DU student has alleged that occupants of an SUV passed lewd comments at her and her friend before allegedly attempting to drag them into the vehicle near a park in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to nab the suspects.In her written complaint, the woman stated the incident took place around 9.30pm Wednesday near Hakikat Park. During the inquiry, police found that the car was being driven by a youthwho was accompanied by two-three people.Following the complaint, police registered a case under BNS sections 78 (stalking), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 3(5) (common intention) against unknown persons.In a video shared widely on social media, the student, who is pursuing a master’s degreeat a DU college, said on Wednesday night, she and her friend were walking from Hakikat Park towards Old Gupta Colony when a white SUV approached them. The occupants rolled down the windows and allegedly passed lewd comments at them. When they objected and asked the men to stop misbehaving and leave, the occupants allegedly started abusing them.The students later realised that the SUV was following them. When they stopped near Old Gupta Colony to record a video of the vehicle, the SUV also stopped. The occupants then allegedly tried to push the students inside the vehicle. However, the student’s friend took out her phone, following which the SUV sped away.The students claimed they went to Maurice Nagar police station but were subsequently referred to three to four other police stations. They alleged that no FIR was registered.Police, however, denied the allegations, saying a case was registered immediately. A senior police officer said the student had visited Maurice Nagar police station but did not mention the incident.“She only asked whether the area fell under the jurisdiction of the police station. After the duty officer informed her about the police station concerned, she left. She did not mention the incident, otherwise we would have immediately taken action,” the officer said.
