Ghaziabad: A 24-year-old PhD scholar from Delhi University died after he allegedly fell from the 27th floor of a highrise in Siddharth Vihar. Police said they were yet to ascertain whether it was a suicide and are examining his phone as part of the investigation.Vaibhav Singh, a resident of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, was pursuing a PhD at Delhi University’s Deshbandhu College and had been staying at his relatives’ third-floor flat in Prateek Grand Society since Aug 18.Kotwali ACP Upasana Pandey said a security guard, deputed at the tower, was the first to find the body around 7 pm on Tuesday, when he heard a loud thud and went outside to check. The guard allegedly found a severely injured Singh on the road and informed the society’s supervisor and other residents.“The youth was rushed to a nearby hospital but he had already succumbed to his injuries by then. Police have sent the body for autopsy and the reports are awaited,” the ACP said.Vijay Nagar SHO Dharam Pal Singh said police were assessing CCTV footage shared by the society. Ïnitial probe shows Singh walking to the stairs on the third floor around 7 pm. Another footage showshim take the lift to the 27th floor. “His body was recovered a short while later,” the SHO said.Police have recovered Singh’s phone and are checking call records and other details. No complaint has been submitted in the case so far.The incident comes days after a 26-year-old MSc physics student at IIT Delhi allegedly fell to his death from the sixth floor of the institute’s building on Aug 22. The incident triggered protests by other students who sought an examination of broader issues contributing to student distress, including denial of academic projects, housing-related difficulties and inadequate support systems, along with greater transparency on IIT’s mental-health protocols.
