NEW DELHI: Prof. (Dr.) Ashok K. Nagawat, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU), has been conferred the rank of Honorary Colonel by the NCC Directorate, Delhi.
Nagawat has nearly four decades of experience in teaching, research and higher education administration. His academic work has included theoretical high-energy physics, cosmology, computational science and converging technologies. He has also taught subjects including quantum mechanics, quantum field theory, theory of relativity, artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nagawat reflected on his association with the NCC and said the values developed through cadet training continue to influence an individual’s life beyond the period of formal training.
Nagawat was an NCC Naval Wing cadet from 1972 to 1975 and recalled participating in Independence Day and Republic Day parades during his cadet years.
He emphasised the importance of discipline, unity and service, saying these values should extend beyond the NCC and become part of students’ approach to education and professional life.
Addressing DSEU students and cadets, Nagawat also highlighted entrepreneurship, leadership and disaster-management skills as important areas for young people preparing to contribute to nation-building.
He stressed that education should go beyond acquiring knowledge and should enable students to apply what they learn to address societal needs and create solutions.
Maj. Gen. Ravinder Kumar, in his address, highlighted the NCC principle of “Service Before Self” and urged cadets to view leadership as a responsibility rather than simply a position.
He said NCC training is intended to develop qualities such as selfless service, responsibility and commitment, while encouraging young people to carry these values into their everyday lives.
The ceremony included the NCC song, the formal pipping ceremony and interaction with cadets. It concluded with a plantation activity involving Maj. Gen. Ravinder Kumar, Nagawat and Prof. (Dr.) Abha Jain Nagawat.
The event brought together DSEU’s focus on skill-based education with the NCC’s emphasis on discipline, leadership and service, with speakers encouraging students to apply these values in their professional and civic lives.
