Nagpur: A 65-year-old construction labourer has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife in a drunken rage at a tin-shed settlement in Ranala under New Kamptee police station limits on Sunday afternoon.According to police, the accused, Umashankar Watti, and his wife, Shyamavati, were both addicted to liquor. Around 3pm on August 16, the couple were drinking inside a tin shed at the construction site where they lived when an argument broke out.Police said Umashankar assaulted his wife with fists and kicks before picking up an iron blower used to ignite a chulha and striking her with it. He then allegedly grabbed her head and repeatedly banged it against the ground. The woman collapsed and later died of her injuries.Police initially registered an accidental death case but later converted it into a murder case based on the victim’s grandson’s statement and preliminary autopsy findings.
