Bengaluru: A road accident claimed four lives Sunday night, after a canter truck — allegedly driven by a drunk driver — collided with their car on the state highway near Kunigal. Seebe Gowda, 48, his wife S Shobha, 42, daughter S Dumbishree, 16, and son S Bhanu Kiran Gowda were driving from Magadi to Kunigal when the crash occurred. The family had left Magadi after dinner, intending to accompany Bhanu Kiran, a class 8 student, back to his boarding school on the outskirts of Kunigal.According to police, the truck driver, Vinod Kumar — believed to be in his 20s and a resident of Nelamangala — was intoxicated and driving on the wrong side of the highway. At Kunigal junction, Seebe Gowda had taken a U-turn at the median when the speeding truck slammed into the vehicle, killing all four on the spot.Police arrested Kumar immediately and a breathalyser test confirmed he was under the influence of alcohol. He has been booked under BNS Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and remanded in judicial custody at Tumakuru district prison.
