Patna: A driver of a Dial-112 emergency response vehicle was arrested and sent to judicial custody after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and hitting three people near Ramdayalu Chowk in Muzaffarpur on Monday, leaving one person seriously injured and two others with minor injuries. The incident triggered protests by local residents, forcing police to intervene.According to police, the vehicle first hit a cyclist, identified as Shatrughan Rai of Baramatpur, who suffered serious injuries to both legs and was rushed for medical treatment. The vehicle then rammed into a motorcycle carrying Manish Kumar of Chameli village in Vaishali district and his companion Santosh Kumar. While the bike was damaged, both riders escaped with minor injuries.Manish said he was travelling from Hajipur to Muzaffarpur when the accident occurred near Ramdayalu Chowk. He alleged that the driver first hit the cyclist and then crashed into his motorcycle. When he protested, the driver allegedly abused him.The accident led to tension in the area as local residents gathered and protested against the driver’s alleged reckless driving. A team from Sadar police station reached the spot and took the driver into custody. Police said one of the victims has submitted an application seeking registration of an FIR against the driver.Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police Kantesh Kumar Mishra said the accused driver’s medical examination confirmed alcohol consumption. “The matter came to our notice and the driver’s medical examination was conducted. Alcohol consumption was confirmed during the examination,” the SSP said.He added that after completion of legal formalities, the accused was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody. “We are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident and whether the driver’s intoxicated condition contributed to the collision,” he added.
