Bhubaneswar: A heavily drunk businessman, identified as B Mohanty (40) of VSS Nagar area here allegedly rammed his SUV into a private women’s hostel in Nayapalli in the early hours of Thursday, damaging three two‑wheelers parked at the entrance, police said.Though no one was injured, CCTV footage captured the vehicle veering off the Jayadev Vihar–Biju Patnaik College road before crashing through the hostel gate and ploughing into the parked bikes. “The gate was locked, but the SUV broke through and smashed the two‑wheelers. Luckily, no one was at the entrance at the time,” said a woman resident.Police seized the vehicle and registered a case. “The driver was found to be heavily drunk. A notice has been issued,” said ACP (zone‑V) Biswa Ranjan Senapati. Officers clarified that no arrest was made since the crash caused neither injuries nor loss of life.The incident came close on the heels of a fatal drunk‑driving crash in Sastri Nagar on July 13, when a law student rammed his Mercedes into a motorcyclist, killing the rider on the spot.
