Ludhiana: Local residents enjoyed a reprieve from the summer heat as evening drizzles and overcast skies brought temperatures below seasonal averages, with meteorologists warning of further thundershowers through the weekend. The city remained under a thick blanket of clouds throughout Friday, following a grey Thursday night. While the weather station recorded only a “trace” amount of rain during the day, the shift was enough to pull the maximum temperature down to 30.3 degrees Celsius — nearly 2 degrees below normal and a sharp 5.3-degree drop from the previous day.In contrast, the night temperature hovered at 20.8°C, which remains significantly higher than the seasonal norm. Local residents welcomed the change, with many taking to parks to enjoy the evening breeze. “Just when the weather starts warming up, the rain brings back these pleasant conditions,” said resident Gursimran Singh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “yellow alert” for Ludhiana on Saturday, signalling a need for residents to stay updated on potentially inclement weather. Forecasters expect a partly cloudy sky punctuated by one or two spells of rain or thundershowers, accompanied by strong surface winds. This unsettled pattern is expected to persist into early next week. While Sunday and Monday will remain partly cloudy, further rain is predicted through Tuesday. Temperatures are forecast to fluctuate significantly over the coming days, with the daytime high expected to hit 32°C by Monday before plunging to a cool 25°C by Thursday. Night temperatures are anticipated to dip to 18°C by Sunday.
