Chennai: The Greater Chennai Traffic Police have announced traffic diversions and restrictions for Sunday morning in view of the Dream Runner Marathon organised by Chennai Runners. The restrictions will be in force from 3am to 8am along the marathon route covering Marina Beach, Santhome, Adyar and Besant Nagar.The marathon will feature 21km and 10km races beginning at 4am from Napier Bridge and Elliot’s Beach. The route will pass through Kamarajar Salai, Marina Loop Road, Dr DGS Dinakaran Salai, Durgabai Deshmukh Road, Thiru Vi Ka Bridge, Adyar Bridge Service Road, ML Park, Besant Avenue, Fifth Avenue and Elliot’s Promenade before returning to Island Grounds.As part of the traffic arrangements, vehicles travelling on Kamarajar Salai towards the Marina from the War Memorial to the Gandhi Statue will not be permitted. However, traffic in the opposite direction from the Gandhi Statue to the Labour Statue will be allowed.Vehicles approaching from Rajaji Salai towards the Labour Statue will be diverted at the War Memorial through Flag Staff Road and Wallajah Point. Motorists travelling from Anna Statue towards the Labour Statue will be diverted at the Wallajah Road-Bells Road junction via Bells Road and Bharathi Salai.Traffic from Bharathi Salai towards the Kannagi Statue will be diverted at the Bharathi Salai-VR Pillai Street junction through Dr Besant Road to reach Mylapore and other destinations.Police said there would be no change in traffic movement for vehicles travelling from Thiru Vi Ka Bridge to the Gandhi Statue through Dr DGS Dinakaran Salai and Santhome High Road.Vehicles from RK Salai will not be allowed towards the Gandhi Statue and will be diverted through VM Street, Royapettah High Road, Luz Corner and RK Mutt Road.Motorists travelling from the Fifth Avenue junction in Besant Nagar towards Elliot’s Beach will be diverted through MG Road. Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses will be allowed to operate up to the Besant Nagar depot but will not be permitted on Besant Avenue Road and ML Park during the event.The Greater Chennai Traffic Police advised motorists to plan their travel in advance, use alternative routes and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the marathon.
