Srinagar, May 21: The second Kashmiri poetry book of noted physician-turned-poet Dr. Gazanfar Ali, titled ‘Sum Nata Taar’, was released on Thursday at an impressive literary function organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with Kashmir Markaz Adab-w-Saqafat, Charari Sharief.
Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, was the chief guest on the occasion. Noted scholar, writer, and poet Prof. Mohammad Zaman Azurda, noted broadcaster and writer Satish Vimal, noted physician Dr. Wahid, Dean Academic Affairs CUK Dr. Shahid Rasool, SSP Traffic Srinagar Aijaz Ahmad Aijaz, and Editor of Kashmiri Section, Cultural Academy, Dr. Javid Ahmad, shared the presidium.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ravinder Nath said that the Central University of Kashmir is committed to promoting and preserving the Kashmiri language, assuring that every possible measure would be taken for the purpose. He said a separate Department of Kashmiri has already been established in the central university where postgraduate MA courses are conducted regularly.
While praising the richness of the Kashmiri language, Prof. Ravinder said, “Kashmiri is not only a language but a living civilisation.”
Prof. Mohammad Zaman Azurda and Inayat Gul presented thought-provoking reviews of the book. Prof. Zaman said that Dr. Gazanfar has been very successfully able to convert his inner feelings into impressive poetry, thereby deeply engrossing his readers in his poetic observations.
Satish Vimal, in his remarks, described Dr. Gazanfar’s poems as “poetry of soft sound.”
President of Adbi Markaz Kamraz, Mohammad Amin Bhat, and Editor and Proprietor of Brighter Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Wani, also spoke on the occasion.
A galaxy of writers, poets, and civil society members attended the function, including former Secretary of the Cultural Academy Rafiq Masoodi, drama producers Ayaash Arif and Bashir Qadri, Dr. Neelofar Naaz, Assistant Commissioner Tariq Ahmad Rishi (JKAS), and prominent writers Mushtaq Shah Mehram, Gh. Nabi Adfar, Ali Ahsan, and Ab Rashid Shaad.
