Srinagar, Aug 1: National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and CPI(M) leader and Kulgam MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Saturday condemned the killing of two non-local labourers at a brick kiln in Keelam area of Kulgam, describing the incident as a grave attack on peace and humanity.
Dr. Farooq expressed grief over the killings and demanded a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation to identify and punish those responsible. He said such acts were aimed at disturbing the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir and undermining stability.
“We do not know who is behind these attacks or who seeks to destabilise the situation. There must be an impartial, transparent and credible investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Dr. Farooq said.
Questioning the timing of such incidents, he said, “Whenever the demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood gains momentum, such disturbing incidents occur. Why does this repeatedly happen? The people deserve credible answers.”
Tarigami also strongly condemned the killings, calling the attack a “heinous, barbaric and dastardly act”. He said the victims had come to Jammu and Kashmir only to earn a livelihood and contribute to the region’s development.
“Two men who came to this land solely to earn a livelihood for their families were shot dead in cold blood,” Tarigami said, adding that such violence was against the tradition of hospitality and humanity associated with Kashmir.
Both leaders urged the administration to ensure that those involved in the killings are identified and brought to justice without delay. Tarigami also called for adequate security measures for migrant labourers working across the Valley.
