Ganderbal, Aug 1: Despite persistent rain, landslides and challenging weather conditions throughout the month of July, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road the only all-important road link connecting the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir with the Union Territory of Ladakh remained continuously open, ensuring smooth movement of vehicles without any major disruption.
The uninterrupted operation of the strategic highway has been widely attributed to timely traffic management by the Traffic Police Sonamarg and the prompt road clearance efforts of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which worked round the clock to maintain connectivity.
Officials said that while several vulnerable stretches of the highway witnessed frequent shooting stones, mudslides and waterlogging due to incessant rainfall, swift action by the Traffic Police and BRO prevented prolonged road closures and ensured that stranded vehicles were cleared at the earliest.
Traffic Police Sonamarg maintained strict regulation of vehicular movement, monitored road conditions in real time and coordinated closely with the civil administration and BRO to facilitate safe passage of vehicles, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
Officials said the seamless coordination between the Traffic Police Sonamarg and BRO played a decisive role in keeping the strategic road operational despite continuous rainfall and difficult terrain.
The SSG Road serves as a crucial lifeline for Ladakh, carrying essential supplies, defence logistics, tourists and local commuters.
Locals and commuters appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Traffic Police Sonamarg and BRO personnel, saying their timely response and efficient traffic regulation ensured hassle-free travel even during periods of severe weather.
Authorities reiterated that both the Traffic Police and BRO will continue to remain on alert and closely monitor the highway to ensure safe and uninterrupted traffic movement in the event of further adverse weather conditions.
