T’puram: Fifteen people were injured after a pet dog ran amok at Poonthura on Sunday, with one victim sustaining serious injuries. Most of those attacked were fishermen heading to work and residents on their way to church.The incident occurred between 1am and 7am, with most of the attacks reported around 5am. The police said the dog was tied inside the compound of a house when it broke free and attacked people on the road. The dog was beaten to death by locals following the attacks, Poonthura Police said.The injured have been taken to general hospital and MCH. One victim suffered serious injuries after the dog bite damaged a nerve.The police said they had not received any formal complaint regarding the incident so far. The police and corporation officials later reached the spot and took the carcass into custody. The dog was subsequently sent to the district veterinary hospital for examination to determine whether it had rabies.Officials said the presence of rabies in the dog has not yet been confirmed. Further action will be taken based on the veterinary examination.
