New Delhi: BJP MLA Harish Khurana in Delhi Assembly on Friday urged Delhi govt to identify high-risk areas where dog attacks may happen and deploy dog-management teams there.He also said that aggressive dogs should be identified, especially around schools, parks and residential colonies. He claimed that cases of dog bites were on the rise and demanded that a time-bound SOP for prompt action on citizens’ complaints.

The “incidents of stray dog bites” were a “serious threat to the safety of children, the elderly, and women”, he said.. “I request govt to take concrete steps for controlling the stray dog population, implement sterilisation (ABC programme), and identify aggressive dogs,” he added.“Special safety plans should be implemented around schools, parks, and residential colonies,” Khurana also said.Some BJP MLAs said the issues they raised through special mention were either unanswered or only partially addressed by officers of the departments concerned. Speaker Vijender Gupta said officers should address the issues.A resolution was also passed issuing a warning to former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and others “following their proven contempt of the house and for propagating a ‘manufactured and baseless narrative’ regarding Phansi Ghar.Speaker Gupta, noted that while the house possesses the authority to award stringent punishment, it has chosen to exercise judicial restraint by issuing the warning.
