Mandya: The discovery of land-related documents dumped in a dustbin on the premises of the Nagamangala taluk office has raised questions over the handling and preservation of official records, particularly amid an ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in the transfer of govt land.Deputy commissioner Kumara said, “After coming to know about the incident, when I asked the officials concerned, they said the documents appeared to have been discarded after the premises were cleaned.” “It is alleged that after cleaning the premises, waste paper found there was dumped in the dustbin. However, this is not the way to dispose waste paper or old documents. It is a case of negligence,” he said.Kumara said he has suspended M Ashok Kumar, second division assistant and case worker attached to the records branch of Nagamangala taluk office, with regard to the case.The DC said the documents would be examined to determine their nature and relevance.The documents were reportedly found discarded during a period when the taluk office is under scrutiny over allegations of large-scale land irregularities, including illegal transfer of govt land and alleged bogus allotments under the Bagar Hukum scheme. Nagamangala taluk office had earlier come under the scanner of Lokayukta, which raided the premises in connection with alleged irregularities. The action also follows an investigation by ED.
