Kanpur: The driver of a doctor allegedly prescribed medicines to patients at a govt hospital in Kanpur as the emergency medical officer was busy attending a court hearing on Monday. A video of the incident went viral on social media, after which the health department sought an explanation from the doctor concerned. The purported video showed the driver seated in the OPD, calling patients individually, asking about their illnesses, and writing prescriptions on slips of paper. He allegedly told patients the medicines were unavailable at the hospital and had to be purchased outside.Taking cognisance of the viral video, Kanshiram Hospital CMS Dr Piyush Mishra said he has sought a clarification from Dr Ramkesh, adding that action would be taken based on the response. He warned that if any outsider was found prescribing medicines in the hospital or OPD in place of a doctor again, action would be taken and an FIR would also be registered against the doctor concerned.Dr Ramkesh later acknowledged that the person writing the prescription in the video was his driver.Ramkesh told hospital authorities that he had gone to court in connection with a hearing and that the person writing prescriptions was perhaps his driver. He said he has removed the driver for acting arbitrarily.
