Patna: An eminent paediatrician of Patna, Dr Abhishek Kumar Singh, has received an extortion threat demanding Rs10 lakh. The threat was made via phone call on March 30, with the caller claiming to be a “dabang” (strongman) and threatening to kill Dr Singh if he doesn’t comply with the money demand.Dr Singh, who runs a hospital in Mithapur, has filed a complaint with the Jakkanpur police station in this regard. A case has been registered and the matter is being investigated, with call details being analysed to identify the perpetrator, police said on Wednesday.According to Dr Singh, on the night of March 30, at around 8.52pm, he received a phone call from an unknown caller. The caller, claiming to be a strongman, demanded Rs10 lakh from him. When opposed, the accused hurled abuses and threatened with dire consequences.The doctor in his complaint said, “Even after disconnecting the call, continuous calls kept coming from the same number, but I did not answer the phone again. The mobile number mentioned in the complaint is the same from which the threats were made.”The doctor also expressed concern about his safety and demanded swift action from the police.Jakkanpur police station has registered a case and initiated an investigation.Jakkanpur SHO Rituraj Singh said, “Call details are being examined, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused.”Dr Singh is the son of Dr Anita Singh and Dr Umesh Singh.He is also the director of two famous private hospitals in Patna, one on Boring Road and the other in Mithapur locality.
